Default Temp Gauge is wierd

Okay, Brothers replaced my headgasket, thermostat, and rad cap. Car was still overheating, so I bled the system, everything was fine. Today however, I'm driving down Dale Mabry, and my temp gauge started freaking out and going all the way to hot, and even past it, but I'm pretty sure the car wasn't overheating, it wasn't bubbling or spitting out coolant or anything. Previously when the car WAS overheating though, the temp gauge would stay around mid range, how do I fix this? Do I need a new temp sending unit or gauge or what?

Scratch that, I guess my gauge does work, this morning when I got to the range on base, my car had all kinds of steam coming from under the hood, so I popped it, and shit was spraying from my thermostat housing, that's where it looked like it was coming from anyway!!
