rebuilding are car bigger and better things
Car has turned into Project: baby it as much as possible back and forth 2 miles to school. I was going to sell it and get an LS1, but I was going to be relying on my parents for a substantial loan and I didn't want to do that. So far it's fairly reliably gotten me the 2 miles to school and back each day, have to see if it holds up.
Just filled it up today and mileage was only 13.2 mpg over last tank- next task is to fix that. Raised tire pressures to 34 front 36 back right after I filled up. Thermostat has a hole drilled in it, need to replace it with stock- car doesn't warm up until I'm at school/home so I'm always driving in warm-up-mode. Fuel map is rich from when I was running over 20 pounds boost, going to lean it into the 11.5 range WOT. Going to add in lean-burn code so the car will run 16.0:1 under cruise conditions. When I pieced together the stock catback to put on after the cutout I left a piece of pipe inside that sort of restricts airflow, I'm going to pull the exhaust and cut that out. Hopefully these changes will bring me back up to around 16-17 mpg.
After that, the little rubber thing that pushes the clutch switch rotted out so I haven't been able to use my 2/3 step, not like I need it but I'll fix it for the occasional stoplight run. The plastic spacers inside the shifter rotted out and now there's 2 inches of play in it, going to replace them and re-shim everything so it's tight and perfect again. I diagnosed my slight TOB squeak as a result of maxxed-out adjustment of clutch pedal, needed because my slave cylinder isn't the stock turbo awd .750 but something bigger, .8xx something. (Another) new slave is needed. Down the road I'm going to put my twin piston brake calipers on, with decent pads, new rotors all around, and rebuilt back calipers because one is not in good health. After that I hope to buy my friend's Evo 16g off of him when he upgrades because my turbo has always been a source of a little oil burning. Over winter break I think I want to try the boat paint DIY paint job, because anything is better than the paint on the car now, most of which has peeled off. A subwoofer and amp combo needs to go in the car, and then I'm pretty much done. A hell of a lot of work for a beater I can't afford to race or have any fun with, is all I can say
