I spoke to the guy who sold me my Eclipse and...
Putfile - Dispute Over Eclipse
...He lied through his teeth...
If you listen to it, you'll hear him talking about the car "never having anything wrong with it," etc etc etc...
...bullshit. I'm taking him to court.
He said it had an AC compressor when he brought it to me! In fact, he said he had the AC on the whole way to where we made the deal! Again, folks...bullshit!
Ugh! I hate people like him.

"The car's f*cked up buddy" - You
"That's got nothing to do with me, though" - Him
That sums it up, and he's correct.
The A/C portion of the conversation is funny, though.
BTW, I don't know what's recommended for 2gs, but 1gs run brake fluid in the hydraulic clutch system.
Also, if you do take him to court, don't come there with "I looked at the car, but I'm not a mechanic. What do I know?" The judge is going to tell you that you should have had a mechanic look at it before you bought it, not after.
This phone conversation makes you look like a chump. I think you're losing in court. I would have hung up on you a long time ago.
You're complaining about dumb sh*t over the phone (except the A/C), and sh*t that 99.9% of sellers wouldn't know was wrong with their car (knock sensor). You can have a leaking master cylinder and still drive the car without symptoms, also. You did!
He may have misrepresented this vehicle, but this isn't an eBay sale. You actually viewed the vehicle before you purchased it. Your repeated contention that "[you're] not a mechanic" is important, not because it supports your position that he ought to refund your money, but rather because it should prompt a realization that if you don't know sh*t about cars, don't buy a car without having a mechanic inspect it. That's careless. All the surprises that came after the transaction are surprises that come with buying a used car (in the case of a DSM, somebody else's mess).

There's a bunch of things that were misrepresented about the car:
Cruise control doesn't work but Autotrader ad said it did.
Same goes for the A/C
Engine isn't even the engine it was advertised as having.
...Just to name a few.
You're right...I don't know "how to buy a car". I know about cars (to an extent), but I'm not someone who buys 20 cars a month, knowing just what to look at when he buys them.

my brother in law has a symilar case with a local car dealer in orlando, you can actually win, u need a few things....#1 the add. #2 a written statement from the shop with prices for repairs dated withing 48 hours of buying it. how much did you pay for the car? cause the judge may opt to make him pay for all repairs needed to make it what the add said. as for the injectors and motor and slave leak...thats used cars for ya. #3 pix to compair with the ones he clames to have. if for example his pix of the motor look identical to yours and there is no compressor then the judge may see things your way.
HOW much did you buy the car for? and how is the body? and interior? if you got it for under 3k and its not to bad, i wouldnt take him to court casue its not an unfair price.

Thats false advertising and i'm pretty sure its all you need.Unless he has before engine shots and reciepts that the car had a/c I think you can get something back.An ac compressor doesnt fall out and good luck.If worse comes to worse theres ways to get him back even if he lives in miami.
he honestly didnt know about the engine it seemed, cause he bought the car with the understanding that it had an evo3 engine. thats not his problem there.
