Yeah, the AWD conversion is not really necessary, unless your plans are to put some serious power down.

Also depends on the type of racing you plan on doing with it. The AWD will definently help in drag situations. If you happen to do a lot of high spirited driving from a roll, then it's actually detrimental to have an AWD setup.

wow......... why are yall saying that awd is not necessary unless u plan are to put some serious power???????

awd is 100 times better then fwd with a t25 or a 35r it does'nt matter...... if i had a 2g gst that would be the first thing i would do make it awd .....

my boy use to have a awd 1g and use to beat alot if not most of the v8 that he races being awd, then his t-case fucked up so he was fwd and he could'nt beat a MAZDA PROTEGE... with that same setup 16g at 17psi stock engine .......

Go to N2S and look at how many FWD's are signed up for there track day. Also if that is a factual basis for you, why doesn't the track allow roll racing? Why do N2S members preferre to run at the track? why has a fwd import never won against a rwd car on pinks without legnths? Very few fwd cars has ever won in a real race against an equally modded v8 or awd car. V8 rwd guys have been drag racing for yrs. from a dig, who are we to come into there sport trying to change the rules.

As I stated before, it's not really necessary, unless serious power is being put down, which is true. A fwd setup is capable of holding down an okay amount of power.

I agree that an awd setup is far more superior and will garner better results with almost any setup, but it may not be worth the cost if he doesn't plan on modding it very much.

I'd like to run a much larger compressor in the future (waiting for my 7 bolt to eventually walk). Besides the couple small mods I have done to my car, my first big mod, was going to an AWD setup. Then I would have a great platform to work with from there. I'd like to run a 30R or 35R eventually and the AWD would definently make driving the car that much more enjoyable and quicker.

Add a nice Cyclone mani with the Jerry T-25 actuator mod (as well as the whole list of other necessary parts to run a 30-35r series) and you have one sick ass machine.
