Default Eclipse running like shit

My girlfriend has a 96 Eclipse RS. Lately It has been running like shit. At idle it will sputter off and on and sounds like it is going to die. Also, recently it seems to lack a lot of power... can't afford to lose any as it is. When u get on it, it takes a minute to pick up and move. The check engine light has been coming on and off and she took it somewhere and they told her the o2 sensor is dead. Do you tihnk that replacing the 02 sensor would stop all these problems or is it something else? I'm new to mitsubishis. Thanks, JEFF

Change the O2's and i think that would fix it because most of the time when it's dead the car will stall so maybe it's just on the way out. If that doesn't work check the idle/air control system, if it's plugged up and sticky it's going to slow the car down significantly and i do believe that would make the sputtering happen as well. Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong, but thats my .02

Idle Air Controller (IAC) is located in the throttle body facing the firewall.

Should probably be the O2's. My girlfriend had to have those replaced on her RS.

I replaced the downstream 02 sensor and the engine light went off.The car still idled rough and when accelerating it would sputter or miss. I replaced the air filter and the plugs and now it runs fine. It ended up being a cracked plug so it wasnt firing right all the time. Thanks guys for the input

My mom needs to have her o2 sensors replaced too. She's been driving like that for a while and I dont think anything should get worse. Isn't there more than one o2 sensor?
