Default Removing the VC

I have a welded diff I was wondering do I really still need the VC? I know that I can buy a vce if you dont have a welded diff but if you do, do you still need one? Or can I just take the VC off?
I know that would be removing at least 5 lbs of rotating mass of the tranny.

Don't do it, I know there are little tricks you can do that if done right can hold the output shaft in but The VC holds a 1/4 inch steel ball which holds the output shaft in place.

If done right you can eliminate it, but mine wasn't done right so when I bought it the output shaft slid out 1/4 inch and dumped my tranny fluid and wrecked the seal.

Yeah I know what you are talking about. But the tranny I just got didnt have that lil ball in it anyways. So i have the issue with the shaft sliding in and out. And my seal is leaking. What did you do with the seal? Did you change it and if you did, the only way I see to0 change is to drop the tranny again. I know that ON NABR Jerry mentioned that you can drill a hole in the shaft and cut the drill bit to fit it and use tie wire to hold it in place. How long did you go on that bad seal because mine leaks a ton.

Just pull the output shaft out and change the seal. Then add the ball...
If you want to do it Jerry's way goodluck it's a good idea in my opinion, but I needed my car back on the road ASAP and wasn't going to try.

I changed it on the car if you need help, I might beable to lend a hand.

That would be great if you could lend me a hand on this. I really didnt want to drop the tranny again but if I had to I was going to. Its not my daily driver so I was not stressing it to much but I would like to get it done soon. I also ahave lift access so its not as bad as doing it on the ground. Let me know when you tghink that we might be able to do this.
