Default Starter grinds when starting motor.

I just put a different tranny on, and now it seems like the starter doesnt lineup right or something. Everything is on right and the starter is torqed down put everytime I go to start the car you can here the starter grinding like its not lined up right or its not having complete contact with the fly wheel. There was a starter shim that was on the block between the old tranny. I was wondering if maybe that sim or plate could be causing this problem.

yes it can what you can do insted of pulling the tranny back off is put a washer on each starter bolt between the tranny and starter and this will space the starter it's not the "right way" but it work's well

Hey art I inspectied the fly wheel it look like the starter is not making full contact with the fly wheel. Looks like its catching the very edge of the fly wheel like the starter is to far from the flywheel. Maybe I should pull out the starter plate and see how things are then. This problem is starting to get old.

Oh by the way might bring the car to the lube on thursday night.

yeah i bet your having your fun with those vr4`s. The whole tranny rebuild wasnt that bad besides I should of had the 2nd gear syncroes changed they grind a lil bit, but thats ok. I gonna rebuild the other one that I destoried and get better gears for it and double syncro everything. Theres alot to do but it dont matter.

I had the same problem but it turn's out whoever had the car before me put the transmission in without the dowel pins. That may be your problem.
