weight reduction
For those of you who are out there and do this any tips? I'm gonna be ripping into the galant soon. Don't care about keeping any of the a/c stuff or vent work but I want to keep the heater core in there for cooling purposes. Also still want full interior and the stereo. What all can I start pulling out? I want to get rid of the abs, where should i look for the non abs lines? already have the battery mounted in the rear and no carpet in the rear.
also tom, do you know how i take this stupid ass jack out fo the back?

You dont need the heater stuff for cooling.
Get rid of it all.
Mine has a full interior with a stereo.
The jack is a pain. You just have to keep messing with it.
You will need to front brake lines (including the ones from the master to the dis. block)and distibution block from a any 1g non abs e/t/l.
You can loose 50lbs just by scraping the floor and taking out the big rubber mat on the inside firewall.

So I can just buy some ss brake lines for a 1g t/e/l and then go get the non abs dist. block from a 91 gs galant and use that?(theres one at a local junk yard)
I thought the heater core helped keep the engine cool and dissipate heat.
Do you still have your full front and rear bumper? I was thinking of scraping that and just making aluminum square brackets for the contact points.
What did you use to scrape the crap off the floor with? how much of a pita is the carpet?

It gets really cold driving a car without a heater in the winter. Unpleasantly cold. This observation coming from the rolling electrical malfunction that is my dsm, with no blower motor last winter. I would leave the heater stuff in.
Front and rear bumpers are heavy on TELs, probably the same on Galants. 30 something pounds each. There are a bunch of heatshields above the driveshaft, on the gas tank, etc on a TEL, a good 10-12 pounds to get rid of. Going to a stainless 2g clutch line let me get rid of the stock clutch line and bracket which on my car weighed 2 pounds. Spare tires are about 40 pounds, but you've probably already gotten rid of yours. Automatic seatbelts are about 30 pounds total with all the wiring and tracks and motors, I replaced mine with 5 pounds worth of Suzuki Esteem manual seatbelts. Then again the galant might already have manual seatbelts... I've never been in one. Stock wheels are heavy, my rx-7 wheels+ falken ziex tires were 13 pounds+ 22 pounds for a pretty good reduction over stock until I bent one of them. Still need to get that fixed by Transwheel but I'm sure you already have lightweight aftermarket rims. A sheetmetal intake drops 6-7 pounds over a stocker, and pulling the two support brackets for the stocker drops 4-5 pounds. I could keep going but a lot of what I've pulled from my car might not apply to the galant.

Oh yeah, the carpet- rip all of the padding and wood off the bottom of the carpet, leaving only the thin upper skin of the carpet. On my car that was a good 15 pounds, might be more on yours.
Car still has stock 15" wheels. I plan on going to something much lighter like gram lights.
I'll make sure to note all the heat shields. I am not sure if I want to go through the pain of the manual seat belts. It still has the automatic ones, Tom does yours still have the auto or did you conver to manual?
The heater core will be taken out if it does not help the cooling of the water system. I have a Jeep that I will be using for the winter and most DD'ing and trust me, that heater will set your ass on fire.
Spare tire is already out. I'll also take note on the carpet.

About time you got your ass out there and did something.
if you are going to put the carpet back down then just use a air hammer.I took me 15minutes to scrape the floor.
For the brake you will need the factory non abs lines that come off the dis block. Just the front ones. The rears ones will bolt right back onto the non abs dis block.

get two good slim fans and you will be fine. I have one and it runs 187-189 on the high way. It will get alittle hot if i end up stuck on the highway and not moving for ahwile. I am putting a second pusher fan on and I am sure it will be fine.

I'm also looking to do the t/e/l radiator and push it in where the a/c condensor usually is so i have more room for a big turbo down the road.
