Default Need Help! Questions About Pulling Motor

i have a 97 eclipse gst and we are pulling the motor today. we got the head and all the smaller components detached from the block, but we are wondering if there is any way we can pull the block without pulling the tranny. i have no idea how long the input shaft is, and i am assuming that if it isn't that long, all we would have to do is unbolt the block from the tranny, unbolt it from the motor mounts, and pull the block. has anyone pulled a motor from a fwd and could answer this question? thanks

I am not sure why you would take the head off to pull the motor but to answer your question. Yes you can pull the whole motor with tranny and head for that matter. You just need to get under the car and drain the tranny and make sure the axels are out of it.

i pulled the head because i bent the valves when my timing belt snapped. i didn't initially know that i had damaged the cylinder walls, but when i pulled the head, i saw that they were gashed

but could i just unbolt the block from the tranny, leave the axles in, and pull the block out? i really do not want to take the tranny out.

I dont know. I would never even think of doing that nor do i know of anyone who has. I dought it though. Not to mention how hard it would be to get the motor and tranyy back to gether with the tranny in the car. I just dont see how it could be done. It would be way easier to pull them together. The reassemble everything and drop it back in whole.

drop the tranny out the bottom, pull the block out the top. it's the easiest way.

drop both tranny and block from the bottom and hoist the front end up so it will clear. That's how I did it.
