Default It lives

Woohoo, started my car tonight for the first time in about two months. Doing the timing with the engine in the car for the first time really wasn't as bad as I'd expected, just time consuming.

Of course, there's a big boost leak somewhere, and it's idle surging itself to the point of stalling, but that's to be expected. I expect to have that and a few other minor issues worked out by the end of this weekend and the car back on the road by Monday.

Laundry list of things I did: I did some mild head porting and I ported my turbo, manifold, and o2, rerouted the coolant lines to avoid the crushed oil cooler, did the clearancing needed to bolt on my rx-7 rims, replaced the head gasket, timing belt, and leaky valvestem seals, and dropped another few pounds of weight in the form of an intake manifold brace of questionable utility and an equally worthless battery relocation cable for a lightweight battery. With the changes I made and some street tuning sessions over the next few weeks I'm hoping for high 12's on pump at around 106 when I head back to the track... assuming an assembly error doesn't shut her down again .

Nice. I like the 20g. Everybody seems to have abandoned it for the 50 trim, but you can find some great deals on them used because of this and they're no less capable than they were at the height of their popularity a few years ago.

Oh, boost leaks= Boost gauge line unplugged and brake booster unplugged. Yeah, a nice half inch hole in the back of the intake mani will make a car idle surge to the extent of stalling... silly late-night mistakes.

Sweet! Glad to hear it is up and running Jordan. Time to get that beast out and show the locals what a true DSM can do.

Congrats to you man. I hope to see it soon either on the street or wherever since you're right down the street from me.

Also, 4drwhore, can you IM me if you're able too.

You'll hear it before you see it. After fixing an overheating problem by blasting the air out of the system with one of those flush kits, I took it out on a half-throttle stock boost run just to start checking for problems. The car's handling and ride is improved beyond belief by the new rims and tires over the crappy 50 dollar Cooper tires on the nt steelies. The biggest change was in power, it felt faster on stock boost than it had on 15 psi before . I'm sure some of that is just getting used to the car again after so long driving the 18 second Pathfinder, but I picked up some good power.

But yeah, on the sound thing- the porting also made the thing even more insanely loud. Before it was loud, but now it's so loud that it's actually too loud for my liking. I've got to get the stock exhaust/cutout combo installed ASAP, I think I'll call Race Related tomorrow because I can't wait on buying a welder. My neighbors are going to burn my damn car at this rate.

Lets hope you could get that noise down a bit. I don't think Temple Terrace cops take a liking to loud imports, from what I can tell judging by past experiences. At least your car is up and running, it feels fast and makes you happy.

you probably ran a 13.8 @ 106 w/ a 2.45 60'

i'm sure jordan is looking for a much better 60' anything more than 2.0 would be a shame in the AWD

Yeah, hoping for a 1.6x. My best recorded 60 was a 1.95 last time out, I could've been in the 12's with a 1.6x. To my credit, my first run was such that I had to have pulled at least a 1.8, but I didn't get a slip for that run so I'm stuck with the crappy 1.9. There were reasons for the crappiness that I have fixed, along with track inexperience that could be fixed with practice, but I've decided that "better safe than sorry" is in order, and I now have a 5500 stutter and much better tires, along with more power. If a 5500 stutter doesn't give me full boost on the line on this 14b, I'll jump it to 6k and throw in antilag, if I have to. I have an awd car, gotta make the most of the launch part of the race. I know that 44pirate hit at least one 1.5x on a skinnier size of the tires I have, but I don't think my setup has the power to pull that off no matter how crazy I go on the launch techniques.
