yea, im with 4G63.. put it up for sale. you dont need those headaches!

but, a gas smell coming from a DSM is not rare. its entirly possible someone removed your vapor/charcoal cannister and left the vent lines open, so every now and then, youll get a whiff of fuel, more likely on a hot day as the fuel is more evaporative. just reach your hand under the battery tray, if there is nothing mounted below it, thats the reason for the fuel smell.

the high pitch whining sounds like its gear noise. it wouldnt be turbo noise if you are just cruising at part throttle. now if you are only hearing it when you acclerate quickly and boosting, then i would say its the turbo.

if its a noise like a semi truck turbo then its your turbo making that noise. if its a gear noise like a deeper mechanical, metallic whine, then id say its either your tranny or your T-case.

check the rear of your T-case for any seepage around the rear seal where the driveshaft comes into it. it could be low or empty on gear oil and the gears inside are grinding away at eachother. better get that taken care of asap before your driveline locks up and makes you wreck your car.
