Weight and that fact that it seems quite a few 1g's have had problems with complete break failure do to problems with the ABS unit. Last thing I want to do is be making a high mph 1/4mile pass and have my breaks decide not to work at all thanks to the ABS unit deciding it doesnt want to work.

I removed mine because one of the hard lines connecting to the ABS unit cracked. IT would have been nearly impossible to replace that line by itself. A side bonus is that it does clear up a lot of room in the engine bay, and allows more room for IC piping and such. I did the job myself and it really wasnt all that difficult, just fairly time consuming. You can get everything you need from a junkyard. I also noticed improved braking feel with the ABS removed

it does make a cleaner apperance and less cluttered. hell, even this AWD i just got has the ABS fuse ripped out, so someone along the line thought ABS sucked. and Yes, ABS will degrade your braking performance on every surface, not just wet or dry..

the only benefit of ABS is to allow the driver to maintain control throughout a panic stop and avoid lock-up and loss of control... thats it. it doesnt make you stop shorter or better... its just safer, thats all.

but faulty equipment is far from safe. if you feel your ABS is compromising your braking performance, i would suggest removing it... it wont stop any worse than the NON-abs cars on the road.

so what do you do with all the lines that hook up to the ABS unit, do you just buy brass fittings that close those lines or what?

You cut them out of the car. You have to get new front brake lines and a Non ABS proportioning valve
