just wondering
just wondering i herd that the 420a motor can only hold up to like 270hp before you trow a rod i was just wondering if that is true or not or is that with the stock internals or something?
I'd ask this question at www.2gnt.com . There are one or two guys with 2gnt's here that might be able to help, but most of us are 4g63 guys. If it helps, the stock 6 bolt 4g63 connecting rods are good to around 500-550 hp for a reasonable amount of time and about 450 reliably.
The rods are pretty stout themselves, it's the pistons that's our weakest link. I have heard that the rods are good to 300 hp. As with everything engine wise, tuning is everything. Most boosted 420A's in 2GNT have blew a piston more than bending a rod, unless they spun a bearing of course.
