Default When do you make boost?

I've got an unported evo mani, unported 14b, and unported evo o2 with no exhaust open dumping, stock 7.8:1 compression 2.0. I decided to test it, I put it in fourth gear at 1000 rpm and rolled onto the throttle. By 1400 rpm I was at 0 psi, 1500 started showing positive boost and 5 psi soon after that, and 12 psi around 2250. Spools too fast, almost. I've got a die grinder and carbide burs on the way so I'll see what kind of spool improvement I get from a full port job.

I wonder what a 14b would be like on a 9:1 2.4?

That sounds about right, 14b's were made to spool pretty quickly.

As far as I understand it is if you port something, it will cause the lag time to increase but help with the top end. I doubt it would be that noticable on a 14b car. My 14b would spool up at different rpm's then yours but then again I had a ported FP evoIII exhaust mani and hks272/272 cams with my 14b.

From what I have experienced you wont really be able to notice a difference in turbo lag till you get up into the 16g turbo range. Especially if you clip it along with the port.

Just have fun and go crazy with the die gringer, it's only a 14b and no matter how much you port it(unless you port a hole in the side) it's still gonna spool up faster then any other turbo with the same applications other then a t25 or a 13g.

I just got back from lunch, decided to try it out, and had almost the same results as you did. I can't remember the exact numbers though.
