Default temp question?

im trying to figure it out if im overheating, has anyone heard of a stock temperature guage working fine from cold to about half way and not moving any further, i dont have any indiglo gauges that would make it stick. reason im asking is because i have already blown a head gasket and something makes me think that it is overheating
