I agree not everyone could do it. Not everyone here can take a tranny out but it still isnt hard. But if he is going to take out the motor because its bad it doesnt make any sence to put a 7 bolt back in when its not that hard to swap to a 6 bolt. If you can pull a motor you can figure the rest out. No i have not personaly done one but i know i could because i know how its done. Nothing about working on a car is hard. Its not brain surgery. Its just nuts and bolts. Its all a learning experience. People just like to make things more difficult then they have to be.

 

taking a tranny OUT isn't hard...putting it back IN can be hit or miss on a 2g!!!!!! ...or maybe i've just had bad luck (although it seems to be easier w/ the 6 bolt)

i agree, he should swap...but it may or may not be easy for him. there is an entire yahoo email group dedicated to the 1gina2g swap, and it is quite active...so it isn't easy for everyone. at the end of the day, they are similar, but different engines and you are running a 1g engine w/ a 2g ecu. at times, this can cause some funky behavior.

i don't think you would have an issue w/ the swap, but it wouldn't be easy for everyone. note: other topic on TR has a guy who can't take off the turbo...probably not a good canidate for a swap. just keep that in mind.
