From the driving experiences of the people in that thread, with the idle set above 900 rpm, it should only be a problem if you rev it up to high rpm and let off suddenly, or pop it out of gear at high rpm and let off suddenly. Otherwise, the idle may drop below 900 rpm when you let off, but it bounces back up. One of my friends has a car that used to require a careful right foot, it had a tendency to stall under conditions like those above- I had no problems driving it. I agree with you, though- it's a matter of personal preference. It wouldn't bother me, but it would bug the heck out of others.

Oh, and I already use the brake and the gas simultaneously when downshifting to come to a stop. Heel-toe, man, heel-toe.
