You should be able to tell just by looking at it. You will also here the engine kind of bog down for a second when it kicks on.

when i look at it it's spinning, but i can't really tell that the engine bogs down. on all my other cars it was noticable, but not this one. i checked the fuses and the conectors.

i was going to ask this same question on here too. but i took it to the shop to check the AC for free. anyways to save u few hours - here whats the told me - my compressor went out and when u turn on the ac - the light started flashing means its shorted out(but they really hook up to check it to make sure) - so my car have a safety feature that disable its from damage other part. so its shut it down after few mins. and my next question anyone have a used compressor for a 96 eclipse GS for sale cause they're asking about 500+ until i say no - they say 410$ either way i know i can get cheaper than that.

someone told me that if i had no freon in it, the compressor won't turn on. well i checked to see if i had any, and no i don't. i guess i'll convert it to r134 and hope the compressor is still good.
