most 92's will have the 6/4 combo. double check the GVWR sticker on the door jamb to make sure that the build date is prior to may of 92. after may of 92, they switched to the 7 bolt motor.

its possible that john shepherd doesnt use a 4 bolt because he never drops the clutch.

ive broken a 3 bolt and i wasnt going to spend money on yet another 3 bolt. the 4 bolt upgrade is worth it because the axle shafts themselves are simply larger in diameter and i beleive the axle spline diameters are larger too, thats why they sell axles replacement axles that cover up to the change over date, then for cars built after the change over date, they sell another type of axle.

my 3 bolt rear end failed right where the splined end goes into the rear diff... oddly enough it broke on wet pavement. youd think the wheels would just break loose and spin, but the axle just snapped.

oh and parts of our talon have been resprayed like the front. i know the rear has cuz the right rear quarter has been replaced, i think it was in an accident. but it needs some body work and will get new paint... but tahts after its fast.

If you get a 90-91, you might not even have to swap the rear differential. Tom (Triple G) is running 112 mph on his 3 bolt.

My 90 has a 4 bolt rear in it.I shattered the stock 3 bolt into tiny pieces. Also has big brakes, fully built 92 AWD tranny and dark charcoal leather from a 94 TSi AWD. Best of all the years.

Thats dead wrong he uses a 4 bolt. But the rear gear is the same in 3 bolts and 4 bolts. So if you have seen him looking for 3 bolts its because he uses the rear gear from them when his brakes.

Tom is absolutely correct with the "best of all years" statement (except maybe the interior, thats subjective)...

and FLUBYUX2, did your girlfriend participate in selling cars in the Tyrone Mall parking a little less than two years ago??? 'cause i was there one day and saw the lot of cars...figured i'd check it out and see what they were selling. i asked for a 1g eclipse or talon...and they said they didn't have anything that old...as i'm walking a way this girl walks up and says she has one. it looks very similiar to the one in your sig...she called somebody to ask if she should sell it. told me about swapping the rear end and everything. maybe that was your girl...

lol yea that was my gf, Psifactor then. she called me to ask me if she should sell it.

unfortunatly for you, i told her no. we have too much money wrapped up in it. we would make more parting it out than selling it as a whole.

actually, im in the mood to buy another 1G for myself... identical to this one. only the new one would be set up for rally... just for the hell of it. get some gravel tires, make it ride high, put a big light pod on the front end of it and big mud flaps on all 4 corners... it would be insane!

my personal favorite is a 92-94 talon body, awd, 5 speed, lsd, ac, abs, 6/4, big brakes, 92-94 talon rims, charcoal leather and black exterior. btw, mine will be ready in a few months. hehe

all 92s had 4 Bolt rear ends.
easy way to tell about the motor....
Big Brakes - 7 bolt motor.
small brakes - 6 bolt motor.
I haven't found a oringinal car to prove me wrong yet on this one.

Flubyux2 - why would you want a rally car in florida? where would you even take this thing out?

7 bolt 1G motors are fine. I would have no problem building one myself. Main supports are stronger as well. How many 1G 7 bolts do you hear about walking? about the same ammount as 6 bolt motors.

another way to tell if it's a 6 or 7 bolt is the oil pan. on a 7 bolt it sticks out on the belt side, but on a 6 bolt it goes in (or vice versa, lol...i'd have to go and check the gs and tsi to be sure...i forget). but, it works that way...

Because he's a hillbilly at heart. I'm 100% against that idea.

Yes that was me at the car dealership. I have a number of people asking about my car while I worked there. Were you the one who was at the tyrone mall sale?
