but in light of the bov subject... someone said it earlier, some cars hate vented bovs and some cars (like mine) dont even care at all... from day one i have vented and my car has never once stalled... the type is loud dumped though... if you dont have a safc already i would say get one... its basically a mandatory mod if your car is going to ever go fast... with the right tuning you could have better luck venting... and buy my intake too... you should hear the car w/ the intake, its just insane noise with it...

heat-cycling and in my case, a popped out dipstick spraying oil everywhere helps the heat shield deterioriate. If you are talking about the spot just above the BOV, on 2gs sometimes the Type-S sits a little too high causing the top screw to rub a hole in the heat shield.

never realized how much info doesn't get out. i'm going to comment on many of the responses to this post, without quoting anyone specifically. unless you're running a non-mass set up (such as a vpc) then you should recirculate the air back into your intake. not only does this keep the car from stalling between/after shifts, it also helps keep the turbo spooled as the air is pointed in the trajectory of the compressor wheel (but the correct direction...as opposed to with no bov the air would slam back into the compressor wheel every time the throttle closed, but in the opposite direction...shockwave). if you decide to purchase an aftermarket bov soley for the "noise" (that's gay) and feel you must have it "blow off", then be prepared to stall at stop lights and stop signs...and it will suck. however, if you're cool with that, then you must plug the "leak" you've now created in the intake after the MAS (where the recirculation tube connects), otherwise you'll run rich all the time as a result of the metered air being lost (you don't plug it to "keep the engine from getting dirty" as someone said. although, if you left it open, sh*t "could" fall in the hole and destroy the compressor wheel, but probably wouldn't get much further than the intercooler...and there would be some unfiltered air entering the engine, but that's not the point). however, if you purchase it because the stock (stock 1g) bov can't handle much over 17psi before it begins to leak pressure, then that's great...but if you understand that then you also understand the need to recirculate, so this post would be uneccessary. finally, i've yet to here an aftermarket bov that wasn't far louder recirculated than a 1g BOV vented open air...so, again, recirculate...it'll still be louder, if that's what you're after, and you won't have to worry about stalling at lights and stop signs.

basically, theres the greddy type s (photoshopped in ) where the red circle is, and under the hood theres the heat shield, and in the green circle, you can even see a mark from the stock BOV, which is actually on that car. im just asking what causes that deterioration on the heat shield, and its seemingly from the BOV, but i just cant figure out what aspect of it.

Like i said in the previous post, its caused by the Type-S sitting too high and rubbing against the hood. Its a common thing.

I (me) never realized how much shit doesnt get out... what you just did is called "tech whoring" which is stating useless stuff (which has already been said, and isnt exactly accurate...) just to accumulate quality points (definition from mattback)
ok first of all not everyone stalls everytime... i know there are plenty of people on here that vent and its cool... and second im thinking that if someone knows anything about cars and they see the 1 and a half inch opening in their intake they are gunna plug it up... i simply found a old coolant bottle cap, rinsed it off, and put it on the hole... my car runs great... and on top of that, the 1g stuff is usefull but the tread starter has a 2g, it says it under his name...
i dunno dude you basically are saying that all of us on here dont know what we are talking about and maybe you should proofread your shit from now on... just my .02
