Default Suede Headliners-HOW IT'S DONE!!!

With everyone and their mother out there installing suede headliners and such these days, I thought I would post up some pics on how the pros do it. Our head upholsterer is regarded as one of the leading "automotive trimmers" in Florida. When you see the work he puts out, you quickly understand why. No wrinkles, no gaps, no lumps, no NOTHING! Just sheer luxurious upholstery work everytime. The old headliner is ALWAYS stripped if the car has any age on it because the suede will only stay up for as long as whatever is under it-NO HALF ASSING!

We are going to start posting some more projects with befores and afters as requested. He does some wicked work on a daily basis and when you see his final results, you will quickly see what seperates MCOR from the rest. This is the kind of work that has the new car dealerships and our clientelle calling. ENJOY!

Client's luxurious Jaguar XJ8 Long Wheelbase edition. This car has custom 22's with painted inserts, and factory upgraded everything. He wanted to start by replacing the factory blah grey cloth headliner, pillars, and sunroof panel with suede. This is a very difficult car to get apart and back together. Not fun for the average shop-all in a days work for MCOR. This car was completed in under six hours from beginning to end (upholsterer even had time to get started on another one of our leather conversions after completion today!). This car is going to have a ton more work done as budget permits. In the next build steps, we will be installing exotic slate grey ostrich inserts in the seats, upgrading factory Alpine speakers to all JL Audio C2 components, JL amps, and a 12W7 in a custom hide-away box. We will continue to update this build log-this one is going to be FUN!

Outside shots (stunning):

Pillars before:

Overhead console switch panel inserts before and during (no shops take this extra step-MCOR unique!):

Thanks! Just need to get some more TR members in here for this. We have a two-tone black/grey suede headliner job in a Benz S500 in the works. Double stitching a center grey suede bar with black on both sides. Should be HOTTT!

We can of course put your custom logo or whatever in the headliner for the 3d effect also. Give me a call with your needs...

Here is a member's Dodge Dakota with a simple black suede conversion. For a couple of bucks over the cost of just a plain-jane headliner replacement, you can get the suede look. Look at how dramatic a difference it makes!

Depends on the size of the headliner shell, wether or not the headliner is brand new and just needs the overlay material or if we have to actually scrape it and install "suedeliner" material. Also price goes up on sunroof cars, and if we are doing pillars or not.

That being said, a job like the Jag up top was a bad headliner and sunroof panel, and all 6 pillars and roof console. So, we had to completely scrape everything on all pieces. We then installed actual suedeliner complete. It was an 8 hour job and he paid $599. In contrast, we just did a Golf for a member here but he brought in all 6 pillars, sunroof panel, and headliner shell. We had to remove his material that he installed (not happy with the results), and put on all suedeliner. Because it was less of a job (except removing his material-that was a PITA), and he did the complete R&R, it was less than $400 with about 4-5 hours work.

The Dakota pictured up there was a regular cab. We removed the headliner, removed the material from the shell, recovered it in suedeliner, and reinstalled it in less than 2 hours and only charged him $85. It was regularly $99 but he was a TR member and he purchased some other items/services while here so he received those discounts.

So, it can vary wildly. We just did an 09 Escalade ESV with two factory TV's, roof AC system, pillars, and sunroof shade. It took almost two full days and was $999 (8 yards of suede). That is the extreme most expensive typically...

do you do diamond stitch leather inserts on seats and on A/B/C pillars? rough estimate of additional cost compared to the suede option?

If you have the money, ANYTHING can be done. However, you need to call me or set up a little consult with my upholsterer and come up with a interior layout once you are ready to do it. I am putting together a portfolio that we are having professionally laid out in a color manual and slideshow for our upcoming website that will absolutely blow your mind. Trust me. When it is done, there will be no more "can you do this", it will be "how much and when"?

Here is a loaded Chrysler 300 that we just did. Complete conversion to black suede on the headliner, and recovered all the plastic pillars in suede also. Next to come is black carpet. Third stage is the black suede seat inserts. This one will come out real classy also. You shoud see the driver! (Hint, she looks real nice...)
