By: MazdaMotorsports.com 11 hours ago A high-flying incident for Rene Rast in Saturday morning practice for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen put the No. 77 Castrol/ModSpace Mazda RT24-P on its roof and potentially out of the running for Sunday’s race.However, that same car will drive onto the track today for morning warm-up and then in the race, after an all-day effort by Mazda Team Joest and technical partner Multimatic. While the chassis and the turbocharged 4-cylinder Mazda engine remained, the team replaced nearly every other major component on the Mazda RT24-P including front and rear suspensions, floor, bodywork and gearbox.“We are very fortunate that Rene is OK and the incident wasn’t worse than it was,” said John Doonan, Director, Mazda Motorsports. “But the Mazda Team Joest crew and our partners at Multimatic dove right in and identified what we needed to replace and worked in concert all throughout the day to repair the car. It was on the ground and ready to hit the track at 10:00 pm last night – embodying Mazda’s challenger spirit. We have a long race ahead of us but that should give us enough opportunity to move up the field.”Rast, who was evaluated and released by the track’s medical center immediately following the incident, will race with teammates Oliver Jarvis and Tristan Nunez.“Our Mazda RT24-P was very competitive in that practice session, so the incident was a shame,” said Rast. “But I feel fine and have no pain. I was passing a Porsche in the esses, and when I went to pass him I didn’t clear him, and I just went too far to the right and I clipped him which put me sideways. And going sideways at that speed, and sliding over the curb, lifted the car up in the air. I think we can be glad that I walked away without any injuries and the car is able to be repaired.”The No. 55 Mazda RT24-P was qualified by Harry Tincknell in 13th position. He will share the car with Jonathan Bomarito and Spencer Pigot.The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will be broadcast live on FS1 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.
