Idle retardation
Ok so basically im tired of this fucking rx7 being an ass i cant figure it out, jeff cant figure it out, landon cant figure it out so the first person that can figure out why i cannot set my idle to the right setting without the car acting retarded i will literally pay you yes PAY YOU for whatever i think its worth who knows maybe like $150 i dont care im tired of this stupid piece of shit. SO here is the details car was an automatic that was switched to 5-speed ever since the swap the idle cannot be set to the proper setting. In order to get my car to idle at the right rpm i have to tighten the TPS screw ALL THE WAY DOWN but then when it is set as such the throttle is all jacked up if i barely touch the peddle it will jump right up to 2k and hold there and the car will kinda shake around a bit and i push some more it jumps from 2 to 3k and shakes around and so on and on and on when it comes back down to idle it will rest at around 800 and then ever so often will start droping down then up then down then up. NOW if i loosen the TPS pretty much ALL THE WAY OUT the car will run normal but the idle will be between 1500-2000 and at some points it will do the same as the low idle it will start to drop down and up down and up.
i have came to a couple conclusions myself being
1. I need a manual ecu cause the auto is still in it, but everyone including jeff at maztech says it will not make a difference so you tell me.
2.TPS is bad, but myself and landon and jeff have set my tps and it works as it should.
3. There is a vacuum leak somewhere and i have no idea where cause i cannot hear one.
4. The car is just fucking stupid <<< im going with this one
5. The thermowax or w/e its called is jacked up. have not tested this one yet but i have had 1 person suggest it.
6. Fuel issue maybe?
7. maybe its time for a Haltech or Microtech ecu and just get rid of all the shit that runs the idle now.
So if you have any clues as to why this is happening or would like to come by and take your shot at trying to fix it and get paid some cash too be my fucking guest cause im about to burn the mother fucker to the ground.

Depending on your mods, and if you have any portwork, it is the ecu and you need a stand alone.

cross thermowax off your list.
you can find a vac leak by spraying starting fluid throughout the engine bay while it's running, @ key connection points like where the upper & lower IM's meet, for example. Proceed until finding the leak

What year car? An ECU swap should no difference on the s4. If you have it, push the thermowax down with your finder while the car is running and it will disable it until you let go. This will give you an idea if it's sticking. Mine sticks and affects the idle exactly like you describe.
On the automatics, I think the ecu used an input to trigger idle timing advance for when you put it in gear.
When you get your idle speed right, then plug the tps in and try to adjust it with the two light bulb method. If you want your idle to be higher than 750 after finishing all this, then adjust it with the throttle stop screw, not the idle air screw on top. You will keep tps calibration if you adjust via the stop screw rather than idle air screw on top.
Did you remember to plug off the vacuum line that *used* to go to the vacuum modulator on the auto transmission?

- How is your timing at idle? It should be factory -5 & -20 at 750 rpm. +14 adv over ~1100 rpm.
- How is your throttle stop screw?
- How about the idle speed screw?

^^ that very well may be your problem, do you have any of the emissions hooked up?

all the emissions are still hooked up but i want to block them off if someone can help me with that it would be awesome cause i honestly as many times as i have seen it done on cars still do not know wtf i am doing an i dont want to fuck it up.
