Ok guys so Im putting together this 2nd gen (87) rx7 for chumpcar and the 24 hours of lemons endurance races. I wanted to eliminate possible sources of problems so I tried removing the air pump, egr system, and oil injection systems.

now it runs like shit. seems real lean, popping and sputtering.

-there are no vacuum leaks
-we're pre-mixing two cycle castor oil with the fuel
-from the three components removed there are aluminum block-off plates bolted and siliconed in.

anyone had this problem removing these components? know where I went wrong?

help a rotary team out!

24hr of lemons...that shit is great Im glad someone else knows about this.

Whats your premix ratio and also is your oil metering pump removed?

What about the rest of your emissions? Are they still there?

 

oil metering is completely removed. all emissions removed. I found the problem.

I tried to use silicone rather than a gasket for the intake manifold and it left a space inbetween.

for anyone else in the future that goes about removing these parts heres what you have to do:

1. wrap your hands firmly around your neck and pull your head out of your ass.

2. complete the job

See, I did step 2 before step one, so now I have to go back and do step 2 again, having completed step one this afternoon.


BTW we are doing a helio castro-nieves IROC tribute theme, so we will have crown royal logos all over the car, but instead of "drink responsibly" it will say "drink irresponsibly" and instead of M.A.D.D. (mothers against drunk drivers) it will read D.A.M.M. (drunks against mad mothers) and the seat will be upholstered in crown royal bags. look for us #55
