Default 94 protege clutch wont disengage.

Friends car wont drive because the clutch wont disengage. I don't know dick about this car so I thought I would come here for advice. I'm going to go look at it in a bit but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. He said he drove it fine and then let it set for a couple months now it won't disengage.

slave cylinder or the clutch rod needs to be adjusted.

When you depress the clutch it feels normal but the clutch isn't disengaging. You can put it in gear when the car is off but not while running. My cousin seems to think it might be the clutch itself. I'd rather not replace it if not absolutely needed, is there a way I can test the slave? How do you adjust the clutch rod?
