Default Performance Chip or Cold Air/Ram Intake First?

Hey guys,

I Bought a Protege5 about 3 weeks ago and i have money for light mods. I saw a performance chip that can give me up to an extra 50hp to the wheels and about 3-6 extra mpg. then there is also a cold air intake from injen and another from k&n to replace the very restrictive stock intake system. which one would be better to start with?

All im planning on modding is those 2 things, then hks hi-power exhaust system w/ 55mm piping and 96mm tip and sounds nice, and a short shifter for now.

Suggestions are appreciated.

chips will never give you 50 hp on an NA motor, save your money for a while and turbo swap it, or if you wanna be like every other ricer out there blow your money on some intake stuff and exhaust and make like 10-20 more hp... IMO do what I did and wait, it's worth it in the end.

well it says up to, so its not guaranteing 50 extra hp. so i am not sure about it. if anything im just doing it more for freeing up the restrictions on the car. i'm only going to put a exhaust after i am sure i need the larger diameter for better flow.

I would turbo but i dont have that kind of money and it already has 82k on the motor so i wanna keep it NA for a while. maybe a turbo later on. i just got 5% tint under $75 while i decide on what to do. looks real nice.

^ In that case, I have a sweet special filter that could make up to 50 hp alone. Wanna buy it? I'll give you a deal, $80.

haha even if that was true it probably wont give me anything past 3. i'm surprised the stock intake is getting any air to the enjine with all the turns it has. its rediculous

just leave it stock, any mods you do will only make it sound faster, unless you turbo or spray

internals man, get some nice cams, port heads, turbo it,
but if you wanna feel good go with injen intake and chip it, forget about the 150hp shift knob

the chip is a big scam....don't buy shit off of ebay...unless it's from an actual person selling something...

by the way.....if ur looking for an intake i have one as well that i'd sell u...plus trade for ur stock air box (this is bigj884 for mazda247.com)
