Default Interested in Miata V8

Retired to Bradenton in 2003. I have been looking at Miata V8 conversions on the Web and they look like a lot of fun. Conversion kits are availble from several sources. I'm mostly interested in an LSX engine, preferably with a 4L65E transmission, but will settle for the T56 shift if necessary (None of the commercial kits is made for an automatic transmission). Are there any shops in the area that could do the conversion work? Especially one with experience. Thanks, John

Welcome to TR

I moved this thread to this tech forum so you can get some guidance.

Also check out our Shops thread which lists all the shops that have signed up here on TR. We also have a users review thread as well.

Good luck with the swap. I've seen a Monster Miata at Bradenton before but that was a couple of years ago. The guy could not get traction for anything. He did mention suspension work that had to be done as well. He put the Mustang engine in.

If I remember correctly Driven Concepts is now closed.

PM John here on TR as he works for a shop that may be able to help.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

i went that route. be prepared to spend 3k in suspension and bracing alone. the kit to drop in a LSx series engine is another $1200. your cheapest setup would be a cammed LS1 with exhaust which would be at least another 3k. You will need a beefier rear and with custom drive shaft as well, about 1k itself. If you go the LS2 route they are setup for a drive by wire configuration and are a pain in the ass to setup and about twice the money. I chose to go LS2 because out of the box 400hp/400lbs. But my car was already handling 400rwhp and i knew that it would hold. so with all of that being said, if you really would like to go that route then i'd be willing to lend you advice and help. it isn't going to be cheap unless you make this long term and wait on good deals.

good luck with your build, any questions just post it up.

and don't forget to upgrade the brakes, especially if you start with an early NA

I thought they were in Jacksonville but that would be nice to have them local.

I still want an 8.8 in mine though, I'll probably source that from boss frog.
