Get a compression check done before you buy it.

Alright allow me to help. First of all you need to see if the motor has ever been rebuilt at all, if it hasn't then it's a miracle it made it to 80k miles without blowing. If it's never been rebuilt expect the motor to go any time especially if you are planning on running any mods or doing any type of spirited driving. As for the question of reliability of this car, there is NONE at all. I had a fully built motor with reliability mods done to it blow at just 10k miles, the 13b-rew engine was meant for performance NOT reliability. These cars are expensive it is almost necessary to have anywhere from 3-5 thousand dollars saved up for emergency money for anything that could happen to the car. Also just to say they don't get the greatest gas mileage, they are only two seats, they are scary in the rain and be prepared to get out of your car smelling like oil and gas. If you still insist on buying this specific car, go ahead and pay for an inspection from a REAL ROTARY MECHANIC. It's well worth having everything checked out to save yourself the risk of spending 3,000+ on a rebuild. Give us more details about the car what type of model is it? It's a 93 so it could be an R-1 a base model or a touring. If it has a sunroof and leather interior it's a touring, if it has suede seats and dual oil coolers it's an R-1 and if it has cloth seats, single oil cooler and no sunroof it's a base model. Also check to see if the owner has good maintenance records and always took good care of the car. Giving us some details can help us to help you.

all FD's were twin turbo
it already has a fmic (of sorts)

The FD I had never gave much trouble of course I never really beat on it though.
Change the oil every 3000 with normal driving, and at 1500 with hard driving.
Change the sparkplugs once a year, it's a royal pain the ass too best to from underneath
the car to do it.
Do the reliabilty mods.
and enjoy going through all tha gasoline

oh and what 1sleepin7 said is spot on correct
hope you got deep pockets

Do not get an FD as a DD, and 80k stock motor is a scary thought...

Get one with an LS1 if you wanna DD it.

I beat on my 13B pretty hard when I had it, but it did have its little problems.

http://www.rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq.../bguide3g.html is a decent guide.

with 80k the motor might be on its last leg. Once fully rebuilt as long as it has reliablilty mods and the tune is good. There should not be many issue with the car.

I dd mine . Beat the piss out of it and never had issues. I also had a spot on tune from gaby skern. ( one of the best rotary tuners out there.)

Then the motor was single turboed and went another 20k miles . The motor was 30k miles of just about pure abuse ( of the good kind . NO NEGLECTION OF Maintenance). And is still going to this day.

These cars can be very tempermental, Just need to know how to work with it.

Also these are quite possibly the worst gas mileage cars around. Expect big block v8 gas mileage. I got 10-12 with mine , But I was happy.

Im currently building another one with the same mods as my last only a bigger turbo. My car has a hinson subframe for an ls1 that im getting rid of . I like the rotary and ill take the punishment from them . They dont scare me at all. Plus I do all my own work.

Just be prepared for a world of shit if the car was abused and not cared for.
