I/h/e actually is a waste of money for the miata. (ask me how I know) For the same price you can build a turbo kit and be much happier. Or you can put an LS1 in it like I am doing. (wanna buy my I/h/e???)

wouldn't a turbo kit still be the cost of an I/H/E since you pretty much have to replace those peices in order to turbo the car properly?
And then factor in the cost of the turbo, plus the cost of the ECU to control it all, plus the cost of bigger injectors, plus the cost of the intercooler... etc

Hey if your anywhere near sarasota you should come hang out at buffalo wild wings on clark. The sarasota miatas group meets every tuesday. Also they have a ton of spare parts you could try and get off em. Hell the head of the club has 4 miatas sitting in his backyard lol.

unfortunately the cost of the NA parts are pretty expensive. For the miata, your looking around 400 for headers, 400 for exhaust, and a cowl intake is around 200. Piecing together a turbo kit can be done easily under 1000. (i have one for sale ) you dont need a standalone for fuel/ignition. im not sure you even care, but here's a link:

If it helps, the generally accepted ways to increase HP on the miata naturally aspirated are to:
1. Bump the timing to ~16º
2. Delete the cat (may be loud, mine isn't)
3. Shave your head
4. Racing beat or jackson racing headers
5. DIY cowl intake
6. Replacing your AFM with the 86-87 RX7 afm
7. Catback - Some people claim no gains, only sound difference

All of the above can net you around ~15-20 horse...

From here you are looking at some major cash to get more power... 11:1 pistons, ITBs from fuji racing, standalone EMS... Many people end up pushing 5 lbs on a supercharger and wishing they never went NA. It's a good idea to sign up on miata.net if you havnt already, they have a wealth of info in the forums and the garage section.

please note I said to "properly install a turbo"
if you wanna just bolt a kit on and set a low advance on the timing be my guest
additionally turboing the car will then be messing with your classing if you intend to autocross the car

nothing wrong with using a $75 bipes acu and a afpr:

The Bipes ACU (Auxiliary Control Unit) dynamically retards the timing of your engine to protect it from detonation or knock. The ACU uses three input parameters to control the timing: Airflow, RPM, and Intake Temperature. You can pull a total of 14° of timing. Not only will you help protect against detonation, or you gain low-end power back if you keep your static timing at 10* or advanced. The Bipes is a proven device in NA, turbo and supercharged Miatas

autocrossing is a whole different subject
