Default Rx-7 as a first car?

Hey there, im 16 right now and get my license in march. Ive been a mechanic on euro cars (BMW, Merc, Porsche, and Ferrari)(No, im not bulllshitting) and ive been in and out of otto engines.

However, i have never touched a Wankel, and im wondering if a rx-7 would make a decent first car? Im thinking 2nd gen, just basic bolt ons to keep it reliable, etc.

Plus, i have about 4 grand (give/take $500) to spend, so from what ive seen this will net me a decent one.

Idea? Suggestions? Also, if you have one for sale for a reasonable price or know where i can find one locally, please post it here. Thanks!

^^ Last time I checked Italy is a country in the European Union, hence a Italian car would be considered a European car.

Edit: I just saw you have an Enzo in your sig... you officially

*Shameless plug... Come out to the BBQ you will see quite a few 7s and we will be happy to answer any question you may have.

As for an RX-7 as a first car, depends. Would I give one to say a 16 year old girl who knows nothing about cars? No way! Now from what you have described you have a decent understanding of how a car works, how to work on a car ect. If you are looking at a 2nd gen 7 make sure to read up first, basically you will have to learn new things. If that doesn't scare you away, welcome aboard.

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. You would have a blast with a TII. TII stands for turbo two. The parts are much less expensive then a 3rd gen, and you can easily get the same kind of power out of them as a 3rd gen. There is a big board called Rx7club.com with a subsection dedicated to 2nd gens. There is a huge amount of information there if all you want to do is read about these cars we have all fallen in love with. If you want to get up close to the cars in person and talk with some knowledgeable locals, the BBQ is be your best opportunity. After reading, should you have questions or need some local help, that is what we are all hear for.

Be prepared to learn. Be prepared to work. Be prepared to fall in love with the best power plant on the planet.
