a TR memeber has a motor out of his 93 mx3 he wants to sell. he replyed in my thread in WTB but im just wondering if it could even work in my 98 626 2.5l v6 my car has a bad head gasket but im not sure how blown it is(warped heads,block etc...) can anyone shed some light on what motors will work and if they are older(pre obd2) what i would need to do to make them work. thanks

 

your best bet if your 626 came with a v6 is to order a jdm KLZE...its rated at 200flwhp and is a direct drop in. Any shop can do this or if your mechaniclly inclined you could do it yourself...don't buy an mx6 motor for your 626. The standard motor in mx3's are the 2.0 4cyl and the 1.8 v6. You can find the klze at any import site that sells jdm motors....

 

yes i saw those but its an automatic and i do not want to spend an arm and a leg on it. i am just trying to fix it and sell it to someone who needs a good daily driver

 

It doesn't matter if your car is an auto or not. You'll get the engine and it will drop directly in...

it would work, if the mx3 K8 can be swapped for a KL, then the KL can be swapped for a K8. Don't know how good a 1.8 will push a 2.5 car. It'd definitly be a backwards ass swap.

 

the guy said his motor was a 2.5l v6 which is what my car is i was just wondering how big of differences there are since the car is obd2 and the motor is obd1 what all i would need to change to make it work if it can.

 

Try the 626 and the mx-3 forums. There are a couple MX3 guys on here but rarely do I see them post. This mazda section is pretty much just Rx7 and Miata people from what I've seen in the past 1 1/2 years on been on here. Sorry I could not be of more help, fwd mazdas have never peaked my interest enough to learn about them even though I own a protege

See that you have an FZR600, the power band is fun as hell with the big stroke of these motors, I have one in my TRgarage along with my real one

 

the k8 engine will not work in your car without messing with the wiring harness...if he told you its a 2.5ltr v6 then it was swapped out for either the 1.8 or the 2.0...if you go look at the motor look just under the vc and look for a klo3 or a klze stamp right on the head....

 

i love my FZR its a fun little bike runs excelltn for having 50k. and it goes pretty good. i beat my bosses ninja 600 and can hang with some of the bigger bikes just not sure about beating them.
