You could put together a decent turbo kit w/o spending an arm and a leg. If you really wanted to save $$$ you could delay getting a FMIC, a lot of the turbo miatas I've seen just keep the boost @ like 4lbs or less until they can afford an IC.
Or......
throw in a 13b Turbo and call it a day, although that's not really "cost effective" unless your engine is already blown.

i ran a 175 hp shot with intank header and exhust with some head work done on a stage 1 exedy and it worked out great for the 1/4.. now for drift and roadrace,, go with a turbo u can keep boost up around corners.
