1G Rx7 questions...
Someone offered me a neat firts gen rx7 for my car. Although I am not interested in the trade, I am interested in the SA. I was hoping some knowledgeable people can help answer some simple questions.
How much do running Sa's ussually go for? Both the fuel injected and carb models.
How reliable is the 12a engine? For some reason I recall the earlier 13b's being reliable, and it was the fd rx7 that had some problems. Is there any truth to this?
Thanks for your time.

well a running SA (79' and 80' rx7 I believe) are kinda hard to find in good condition. An FB (81' to 85') is still a first gen but looks alot better, and has better performance. For $2500 you can usually find a really really nice FB for sale. I have seen them go for that much with only 40,000miles on 'em. It's just you have to look in the right places. But rx7's are as reliable as the owners make them. I have talked to people who have had FB's run for 250,000miles on the stock engine.
SA's only came with a 12A,with the "big top" carb and the intake alot of people like to use on SCCA cars.. It has less emissions.
My first 7 was actually a red 79,with a sun rood and black insides.I didnt like the tail lights so I sold it a few weeks later.
The 13B (fuel injected) ONLY came in the 84/85s which are called series 3.
79-80 series 1
81-83 series 2
84-85 series 3
86-88 series 4
89-91 series 5
I personally like the look of the 84-85 alot better (insides) and they are better built to me.Rear axels are alot stronger/bigger..
84/85 GSL SE have bigger brakes,
steering box is geared diffrent
tranny is geared diffrent
rear end is 4.07 not 3.90 like the other first gens
rear disc brakes

I had an 83 rx7 in highschool for almost two years. My dad bought it from the dealership he worked at for 3k with 30k on the clock. This thing was mint! I fell in love with it and begged for it! I got it the summer before I started my senior year in highschool and had it till two days before I graduated the next year. I had it for exactly 50k miles and it blew the seals. She lost all compression. It sat in our garage for six months then when I left for basic training my parents got rid of it. I was really sad to see it go. That thing drove like a go cart! You could do burn outs for days. Lol its no surprise why it only lasted me for so long. When I really got into going to the track there was a guy there with a first gen rx7 and he had dropped a stock 5.0 in it with a ford rear end. On the motor the thing ran 10's all day long and with a shot of n2o it ran 9's all day long. The guy even drove it to the track two hours every sunday! I fell in love with the rx7 all over again! That is definately going to be my next project car. I would imagine that its rather cheap to do. 5.0 motor 700 dollars, tranny 300, rear end 300, and maybe another 500 for misc. shit! defininately a budget racer! Anywho just my .o2.

Don't take life so serious. It's not like were getting out of it alive anyway.
