RX-8 Flooded engine update
I don't know if there are any other RX-8s out there, but here is the new info with regards to Mazdas new version of the flooded engine repair.
I live in Riverview and had my 8 towed to the closest Mazda dealer. They informed me that the new procedure is to always replace the stock starter with a larger or stronger one. They told me that the stock starter cannot handle the engine. This particular dealer is replacing my battery, starter, and spark plugs.
There have been many problems with the "Engine No Start", and several reflashes of the computer as well as billions of revised service buletins. So, this is there newest version of the fix.
I have had my 8 for a year and have done many cold starts with no problem. I suppose I have been lucky or the weather has been so warm that my 8 doesn't fuss. Sunday was a really cold and drizzly day and my car refused to comply with my demands. The manual says cold starts may occur when backing the car out to wash and pulling it back in without warming the engine.
My Miata mechanically inclined husband was frustrated to say the least when we finally called the tow truck. It is so interesting to see the differences between cars. I am always amazed at how hard he can push the Miata to such extreme levels. My rotary engine seems to be so sensitive. I suppose it is me getting used to the different quirks, but I will never drive her again without warming her up. Those spark plugs! They are practically underneath the car. I look forward to tooling on my 8, but not until I decide to void the warranty.
Just thought I would add some 8 thoughts to the board.

I remember you mentioned this. Glad things worked out. Like I said before, I usually let the car idle about 5-7 minutes or when the RPM goes lower than 1.2K before I take off. Knock on wood no flooding yet.
Hey..can you pm me where you got the grills for your oil coolers.

You can drive the car you dont have to let it idle. RX7's have the same problem. Flooding occurse when you shut the car off during the cold start. Not driving it. Its b/c the cars are fuel injected and if you dont burn off the excess fuel thats inside the engine from it being injected and from whats left oer from the previous drive you will have to much in it. Hence the flooding.
Cant you just pull the egi injector fuse and turn the ignition a couple times with the pedal on the floor to unflood it? Then put the fuse back and and start it? Thats how i unflood my 7.

yeah it's states not to do it to any rx7's, as they don't have time to burn all the gas cause of the very big surface area to burn. I've turned my car on and off before many times after the 13bt install and no flooding or hardstart ever happened. I have all emissions and start-up assets removed.
Early model miatas are 'the' single best car when a turbo rotary or an sr20 is installed.

nope, we disconnected several items that were in the service buletins with no response. we read that you can wash it out with the wiper fluid dealy-bobber, but didnt want to go that route and f it up more than it already was and have Mazda say "no" to the warranty. i was going to have to replace the spark plugs next month so I am glad they are free with this situation. But, I still dont have my car and it is 3:50. It better be ready today!!!argh
