Where is Tenoch.....
Yes the thought is very interesting. I think we will see some interesting attempts to pull more power out of the 8 engines in 2006 now that the warranties are close to being up.
Anyway, we could just debate personal opinion for ever and never come to any important conclusions. What is important is that I am a rotary addict.
I think that with the proper upgrades it would be able to keep up with the 7s out there. She aint slow, she's just heavy.
I will agree that the 8 is very different from the 7, that's why they didnt give it the 7 name. You must look at it for a while to really see the Miata and RX-7 in it. The 8 has potential like the other sports cars in the family, but it is the odd ball right now. Not a Miata, not a 7, but it's own new generation of sportscar. The 6 and the 3 now mimick the 8's styling. The Miata stands alone. The 7 will be the next big thing to come once that Supra is out and it will be crazy expensive. So there is my take on the whole deal.

the 8 was designed for the "mom/dad" who wants to beable to drop their kids off at school yet still be able to fly through turns and rev a motor out. They opted for that market because those people can actually afford them. Sure, they could have made it 2 seats, 2doors and weigh 400lbs less but then that wouldn't appeal to the people that actually have the money. By doing this they shunned it totally, when the 8 starts getting old, people will forget about it.. Plus the motor is pretty much done as porting is concerned. 230ish flywhp is nothing for a non-turbo rotary to argue with anyway, with a turbo-kit the 8 could be pretty fast I imagine.
On the same note as Rotary7, old school cars are the way to go. If you really think about it as much as a new 8 costs ($30,000?) an FC can be BRAND NEW with a 450hp, widebody kit, and some nice wheels for the same price, that goes for any car really.. You just really have to like the 8's body style to like it I guess, and YES I have driven one before, too quiet, not enough power but still handles like a dream.

I have not seen many Mazda owners that do not support other Mazdas in the family as opposed to going outside of the family. My husband and I have the opportunity to own 2 sports cars. We do not want 3 cars right now, but do need to have room to evacuate our cars and dogs in an emergency. My choice was either a G35 or a RX-8. I chose the RX-8 because I am a petite gal that felt the RX-8 was the right size for me. I also drove the MS Miata and felt that I had more response with the RX-8 and it satisfied my desire for torque vs. excitement at a high speeds, which the 8 compensates as much as the MX-5.
So the question is poopy pants, why would so many people without children buy such a piece of cabbage? That's okay, I understand the obsessive crazed behavior that comes with owning a Mazda of any kind, and I suppose I am there too. My RX-8 meets my needs and has plenty of room to add mods where I see a room for improvement. You can just call me crazy, I don't give a RA.

I have heard for almost a year now, they were going to do a "retro" RX3..
Im suprized no one commented on the pic In the link I posted..
Im 100% on Mazdas side to do a "retro" car.. and I personally think the 3 fits it perfect, since it was a bigger car than the R100,RX2.But It would of been nice to have them 2 in the line up..
BUT to me the retro concept car,looks like a Protege,with the RX3 stlyle,head lamp/grill.
I read somewhere they might bring in a rotary pickup.Since the REPU was the truck of its time.Soon there wont be a Mazda/Ford "mini" truck since they will up the size of it.I guess they still can use an old platform, and just put in the Renesis.
I personally dont like what i have seen with the performance of the Renesis.
1)Mazda lied on the HP.
2)I have seen a turbo charged one at a drift event, and dont think all that work was worth it to gain that less of an HP..
But the Renesis, goes to show. The Rotary can pass emissions, with this new design.Thats what hurt Mazda the most.
