Default Anyone in here participated in autocross?

Let me know...I'm very interested. Thinking about sigining up for local events in October. I have read the novice manual from SCCA but still need some advice on equipment and mods.

Will enter with a stock RX-8 (well..it has front sway bar and high performance tires..thats all...really is bone stock). Car is 50/50 weight distribution; think it would do the job if well equipped. I need good advice on suspensions and maybe how to increase low rpm power (exhaust mods?). OK...first person who says get nos gets shot lol. I'm not just looking to improve my driving skills but also to later compete in autox events.

Just keep your car in higher RPMs. Should be fairly easy with the 6 speed. Just do the basic I/E/H. The car should outhandle alot of cars with the right driver in stock form so with some practice you should be pretty good.

I have been autoxing for 6 years now. First, don't change anything on your car, just learn to drive it. Currently, your rx8 is B-stock legal. There are plenty of events in the area, just check out the stickies in the autox forum for the schedule. It looks like the next local event is the BMW club in Brooksville. They are a lot of fun, I got 7 runs on a 1.3 mile course last Sunday. I will be there, just look for a gray miata with black wheels if you have any questions.

I/H/E is Intake/Header/Exhaust. You can do a catback exhaust if you want to stay in B-stock.

Got ya Muddy...ty...planning on doing catback exhaust soon. Maybe not before my novice run but soon. I want to upgrade suspensions, however, people are telling me that the RX-8 has good suspension...wait after the warranty ends.

I might go to BMW in Brooksville...definitely wanna check out your car bro.

I meant with a 6speed the gears should be shorter and easier to keep the RPMs up.

i/e/h=intake exhaust header

Just basic bolt ons that give the most gains.

btw, the modifications only make a difference in classing at SCCA and GCAC (Ft Myers) events. The sunriders class everyone by experience and by street/race tire, and the porsche and bmw events lump all non-porsche/bmw into one class, regardless of modifications.
I know it is tempting to modify the suspension, I already put coilovers on my MSM. However, you will be amazed at the difference a good alignment can do for you. I would spend $90 at Cars and Concepts in Tampa for a good alignment first, buy some coilovers later.
