Default FD: Touring: Bose

Hey all, wow it has been awhile. I don’t even recognize the peeps who post here regularly, except for Tony (seems like yesterday your 10thAE was burning up at the picnic we had at Al Lopez last summer).

Anyway, on to the purpose of the post.

I have a 93' R1 with a sound system that I had installed back when I was in high school. I don’t like it anymore because honestly it doesn’t go with my car. I want to put in the Bose system that was in the 3rdgen touring models. I called a few dealerships to see what they are priced at new... and alas they have been discontinued

Searching the internet I have found nothing on ebay, or google for that matter (except for a couple of places offering to repair an existing system. I also called Bose directly and they said to go to the dealership...)

When talking with the dealerships they also had a strange question, sunroof or non-sunroof (both have been discontinued). While I know that the touring models had sunroofs, was the Bose system also an option for all of the models? I digress, to sum it up if anyone has any information on the system specifically, speaker sizes, what was the specific option originally from the dealer, approximately how much the system costs ect, your help is much appreciated.

Thx
~James

I don't know why you want the Bose system, it's too bulky for such a small car and sounds like garbage. You might want to try these guys, they sell used parts.

Bose does not suck if wired properly.

Boes does not BOOM. Bose will not SLAM. But the Bose system from the FD is a very clean sound especially when combined with a good headunit.

If you got a good headunit (either Alpine or Eclipse would be my choices), you can run the Bose speakers directly off the internal amplifier of the head unit. I did this for a while and it sounded pretty good. I have another friend who did it with an Alpine deck, and it was VERY clean and quite loud but the bass was loud at all.

If you want Bose stuff, I have the door speakers/enclosures as well as the Wave tube for the back. I think the Wave tube may have some issues, since it would work intermittently.

I'd sell you all that for $100 if you want it. I guarantee you that the Bose speakers in the doors will sound better than any crap you can buy at Best Buy when amplified only with deck power. Wiring will likely be a pain, but it could be done.

Let me know.

I Have The Whole Rear System With The Exception Of The Amp That I Sent To Get Fixed And It Has Been About 3 Mo. If You Want It Let Me Know.

$135.00 For What I Have And The Amp Just Paid $79.99 To Get It Fixed Is Separate. I Think The System Sound Great For A Factory System

Thx all for the comments. The car is already wired with monster cables, it is just a matter of taking out all of the aftermarket stuff (eclipse speakers/8' tube & amp) and putting in the bose. pianoprodigy, when the wave tube works, does it sound clean? Because if it only has an intermittent problem it could be as simple as the wires. Also, isn’t there a tweeter in the center of the dash? Maxumotorsports, did the bose come stock with an amp? Or is the amp you are referring to aftermarket? I do want the complete stock look; would going with the stock tape deck stacked on the stock cd deck be an unwise decision?

Also, if anyone has an idea as to where I can get the schematic for the system, that would be awesome.

P.S. Tony, yes the 7 was running last time I started it, the big turbo is gone though and the small one is on its last leg. I have been talking to scott about a build for like 3 years now, but every time I have the money I have bought something else lol. I was suppose to do the build last December but I decided to buy a house instead. I am hoping to get together with scott around February to get the car completely built, microtech and the whole nine yards. The ultimate goal is my baby veryvery well balanced with a completely stock look and feel.

Just run a simple aftermarket setup and you will be much happier IMHO. Everyone ditches the bose setup for a reason.
