Exclamation Why is there a Rev Limiter

I drive a 93 ford probe v6 5spd and the red like on my car says 7 but yet when I hit 5 1/2 RPMs it rev limits. I dont know why. I got an Ecu from a junk yard that works, for a 94 v6 5spd and it still rev limits at 5 1/2 RPM. I want to remove the damn revlimiter or can I send an ECU somewhere and get them to reprogram it with no Rev limiter? Help me out peoples.
Thanks

The only thing i could think of to do is get an ECU off of a 93 MAzda MX6. I have one and there is no rev limiter on mine. I'm almost positive this will work in your probe. Then again, i dont know what was done to my car before i bought it so they might have a rev limiter too. Just a suggestion for you.

My girls 93 V6 5 speed MX6 doesn't have one either. You sure you just aren't getting good spark at high RPMs.

no no no no he's right the rev limiter on the probes is set wayyyy lower!!! and no sorry dude but you dont want to rev any higher trust me it might only be like 5 1/2 but have you acually listened to ur exhaust and listened to the motor and heard how bad it stresses at that speed lol, just keep it that way i mean ur stock and that range is probably your optimum range anyways its not like ur gonna squezze liek 50 horses out of it by freeing up all that JDM rice in there bro lol, btw just get the hookup with friends that have tuners and have them tune it up a lil for ya i mean a good 6 and a half grand is better than 5 and half
mine was set at 6250 ish

and bro I highly doubt that a low rev limit setting is caused by a bad disty lol its the effing computer has nothing to do with fualty parts if ur disty was outta whack you would be running liek shit and putering and maybe not firing right ..... not a low rev limiter lol

My friend had a similar problem. But it was because her gauges were aftermarket and weren't the same. I'm useless but I thought that was funny.

What is you speed when u hit that rev limiter, because my old probe said i was at 5600 when it hit the fuel cutout, but my speed was around 35-40 in 1st gear and 59-60 in second so check where you speeds at because i think my tach was just fubared.
