Default New to Mazda, and want to learn more

Hey guys, I've just started looking into Mazdas and I'm pretty interested. I personally like the 87-92 RX-7s. I just want a pretty old car like that to restore like paint and other things on it. I'm tired of Civics because they're all you ever see. So if anyone has any information on Mazdas then go ahead and tell me about them. Like chassis codes. So, just let me know some good information about the 88-92 RX-7s. Thanks guys.

if you want to learn about the "Second Gen RX7" FC3S is the body code which is from 86-91 no RX7s were "supposly" made for the US in 92

But theres a split on which we call S4 and S5.. S4=86-88 / S5 89-91
The diffrence is S4 N/A and TII produce less HP compared to the 89-91,the engine is the same concept/set up besides the OMP (oil metering pump),(mechanical on 86-88 / electronic on 89-91),compression on the rotors, and body parts were changed, the body line is the same on the car. Some second gens also came with a backseat.

Anyways, the models for the FC3S were
SE
Sport
GXL
GTU
GTUS (only 100 made)
Turbo II (named Turbo II cause of the first gen RX7 in Japan came with a 12AT,=The first Turbo Rotary from Mazda)
10th Aniversarry Edition (only 1500 made)

Convertible

Im not going to get into what model comes with what, but if I was to be a first buyer of a FC and wanted a nice set up ,LSD,pwr windows sun roof on a N/A set up.. it has to be a GXL or better,Im not sure which is true on the GXL,I have heard the later production of the S4 GXL had LSD,Also keep in mind the 5 lug RX7 (FC) has (2?) piston calipers compared to the (1) piston calipers found on the basic 'SE" models which came with 4 lug,is the easiest was to determin that,

First thing to do is to detemin what you are going to be doing with this car, then determin what package you want,The TII and 10thAE are both turbo, but you can swap rear ends, 5 lug swap, tranny and engine swap to make your own Turbo packaged car on a N/A shell. mostly all parts are interchangeable on the FC but you get into diffrent engines, which have diffrent ECU,and harness.(Example) S4 body with a TII or S5 N/A swap

The LSD that you will find in most FCs are 4.10 the GTUS had a 4.30,Convertibles has a aluminum hood, which can be put on coupes, and TII has aluminum with a hood scoop for the TMIC.

Nows heres the catch,on the N/A engines theres 6 intake ports on the face of the plates, its basically a 4 port with 2 upper ports 5th/6th on the end plates the primaries are the center plate and secondaries for the ends, which is why the 5th and 6th ports are on the end plates to help in higher RPM,The rotor housings on the N/A has a baffel inside the exhast port and can be cut out,the TII rotor housings is rumored to be 'thicker/stronger" I personally cant back up this theory.

Any rotary engine (not sure of the Rennisis) can be ported,is the HP gain worth it?I cant say that for the 6 port engines,I personally have not seen any 6 port engines with high HP gains or fast 1/4 times to make me want to go out there buy one to port it,But it can be done.
Simple mods (bolt ons) and changing the exhast will give nice HP gains, but you will need to port to get any good amount of HP gain.

Find out if you want to go N/A or Turbo, find out if you want LSD etc etc.. then I can help you out on finding what you need,

I think I found a GTUS,why Do I think its a GTUS?
No sun roof,nd its a S5 (90) and just read GTUS were 89 and 90,only a 100 made, but is light weight compared to the other FCs,but dont have the luxurys that the other RX7s have (pwr windows, leather seats, sun roof)

BUT this car does not have foglights in the front and im pretty sure all GTUS had fog lights, and not sure if the body, interior colors are GTUS colors.. this one is white with blue interior,I have seen red/black interior..

Decide what you want,I know wheres theres a couplke of nice FCs around, plus do you want to get into some crazy shit and do a right hand drive swap? I know of someone who has or getting front clips

You can contact me by PM,AIM or email, all my info is on my sig,You can see my cars in my gallery,I own a first gen and a 10th Aniversary..
Hope this helps

Well, what I really want is to drift with the car. I've been fooling around in my friends 240 and it's been good and all. I just don't want to mess up his car while I'm drifting it. So, I thought to myself, "What's an affordable, reliable, and nice car to drift with". So I opened up my options. So, I thought 240, no too many people have them drifting. Then I thought 2nd gen Supra, no because I like the 2nd gen RX-7s better (I also like the sound of the rotary engine). So, I don't really mind all the luxurys like power windows, sunroof, or leather seats. So with me planning to drift I was thinking turbo 2 maybe. I don't mind the LSD but it would be a good thing to have. I don't know, I think you should recommend the best model to me with all of the ideas I had in mind. I appreciate your information. Please get back to me, thanks.

Realistically, if you ever want something faster than 15s I'd get a TII off the bat. If you don't, you WILL regret it. Trust me, I had an NA before my TII

For a decent example that runs well etc expect to pay 3k .. You can find them for less ro with blown motors for not nearly as much cash though .

A blown S4 T2 might run you 1k or less
add a 900 $ JSpec adn you have a good to go car .

Ya, I bought my TII with a fresh rebuild and no damage at all for $1200. And its silver which is pretty rare for FCs. You mostly find red ones and some black; especially TIIs.

Yea T2 swaps are getting a little mroe common .

You need a T2 rear end , Tranny , driveshaft , motor and harness w/ECU and AFM and Boost sensor ... Then a turbo fuel pump and the little things like a TID , Downpipe etc

You can do it without the TII tranny and rearend I've heard but if you can get them do so. The NA tranny is garbage.

Oh and check with www.rx7club.com for ALL info on rotaries.
