Well, I suppose the ignitor in the trailing position could have gone bad. But I JUST switched it in from the leading position, which had been working (the car ran, that's my reasoning). That's why I started working backwards, but I expected to see/hear spark jumping to the wire, or from the coil to the wire...something. But I guess if the trailing spark is weaker, then I might not notice it.

I'm gonna make it out to the cookout Sunday, can yack about it then I guess.

My new issue is heating up when I drive with the lights on. I guess my fan clutch is going, because the car tends to run hotter than I think it should (about 1/2 way up the gauge). Then when I flip on my lights (not just pop up, the lights have to be on) the temp begins to rise almost to the top of that area on the gauge.

Of course then tonight I'm almost home, and the car cools down to about 1/3 instead of 1/2+ where it was the entire drive home, about 2 miles from the house.

I found a salvage yard right near my house (gotta love Pasco) but they only have a 2nd gen, no 1sts yet. That direct fire thing sounds ok, but I'm not looking forward to tearing into my only running car, and I don't get weekends to work on it. Actually...there's no days I don't need to drive the car, so any work I do has to be a one-evening type job.

Direct fire Ignition takes an evening.

All you do is replace you leading igniter with the ignitor/coil pack from a 2nd gen and run the plug wires directly from the coil to the plug!

Not a weekend project!

Ah...you know not the incredible (lack of) speed with which I work. But I'll keep it in mind if I can't figure out the current stock setup. I'd like the trailing ignition to work...so far all I'm seeing in my price range (beg, steal, or cheap) is replacing the leading ignition. While I might gain some with that, it still leaves my trailing ignition not working.

And I just calculated gas mileage for the last tank of gas after new spark plugs- 24.4 mpg! Of course that's a 12A not a 13B, and nothing done to it, highway speed driving mostly.

I told you in the other thread i had a clutch fan too fool lol If u need some parts i have a lot of stock parts for the first gens that I tore off of my engines when I bought them b4 I modded them. I have had 3-5 stock 12as that I have taken parts off of and just kept for no real reason. If you need a stock part PM me I have the clutch fans the stock ignitors stock coils and everything including working vacuums for the stock carb. I said it before since they are stock parts i'll give them to your for cheap or just for free depending on what it is and what i paid for it. Ill try to bring some of the parts u need to the meet tomorrow and maybe work something out with u about borrowing or taking them off my hands I live in odessa right on the border of hillsborough and pasco so u shouldnt be too far away from me

All right man, Iam saying this one time and Iam out of this thread. Obviously since your car is running your leading igniter works. Use the leading igniter, on the trailing side( trailing igniter doesnt work since you get no spark from the trailing). That will take care of your "no spark trailing plugs". leave the trailing ignition exactly like that(stock) Now with your leading igniter, splice the wires (from the wires that connect to the leading igniter) to a stock 2nd gen igniter/coil pack. Then run your plug wires Directly from the 2nd gen coil to the plugs bypassing the distributer. This IS the way the 2nd and 3rd gens have their ignition from the factory. Then later sometime you can upgrade the stock 2nd gen igniter with a MSD 6A, if you would like. If you dont understand this I cant help you, I have said this many different ways and still you are having this problem?
