What are the rules for breaking in an RX-8...

Dealer said easy for 1K miles then a lot of runs to 5K rpm after that to seat the apex seals... then drive 500 more miles and then have at it

 

Drive it into a tree,then help pettion to bring the RX7s back ..

I woudnt go by what a dealership has to say on the Rennesis rotary engine,most of the people working there now has no idea,on what and how a rotary engine works.

I would contact shops that has good reputation working on rotarys for info like that,RacingBeat,Pettit,Atkins Rotary

Can't tell you about the RX8, but for me:

Under 4k for 1000 miles

No boost for 1000 miles (heavy acceleration)

Change oil at 100, 500, 1000, 1500 miles

 

first 3000 miles, keep it under 4k rpms
i wouldnt go hard on new cars till after 10k on it.......especially rotaries

and yes, oil change, keep up with oil change.

speaking of oil changes, does anyone believe that stupid 5w20 stuff they have at bmw and acura dealerships? you change your oil at 7500 miles?? wtf mate?

 

Do not call Mazsport, they build shit cars and shitty engines that smoke even new ones.


And the break in for the new engine is 6000 miles, before maximum HP is acheved. change the oil every 500 miles for the first 2500, then its change it @ every 1000 miles, make sure the oil is staying clean and not get dirty, this is the key to a perfect breakin, make sure the oil is kept clean, and run a small amount of TCW-3 2 cycle oil ihn your gas, add 1 ounce per gallon, since you have oil injection, and this with make is run very good at higher rpms and cause less wear during start up.

Hey Levi what kind of oil would you recommend using in the RX-8? Mazda recommended I use 5w20 motor oil and I was wondering if you knew of a better oil for the engine. Thanks a lot for hte response too man you've been most helpful.
