Default sr20det miata

Can you really put an SR20DET in a Miata. Does the Miata have to be a certain year. What are the drawbacks of this swap? Can you imagine a 300hp Miata. That thing would fly.

look at this website click on the Miata

Why would I want to? The ***STOCK*** motor is good for 400 rwhp, as shown by Ric Stevens in Texas. stock block, stock head, running 10s, over a year ago.

Ya there are quite a few turbo/supercharger kits for miatas. The motors are very strong, just don't put out much pep stock.

We will be putting one in my 93 Miata, and maybe another one. Doesnt look simple. Plenty of room front to back and side to side. SR is a couple inches taller, and the oil pan wont drop neatly into the spot the stock engine's does. So there will be a good bit of custom fitting. Nissan tranny seems to be about the right length to have the shifter come out in the same spot. Will need a custom drive shaft. Shouldnt be much of a weight difference, so handeling will be about the same. Should be a blast! If anyone else is interested, check us out and I will keep the board updated.

I've seen V8's in Miatas, they make mount kits for it. I would personally go turbo, so much eaiser and you still maintain a light weight car that handles like a dream.

Why go through all that hassle and money though? You can easily go out a buy a kit for it.

Well, hope i dont get too much flak for this, but i dont care for the stock 1.6l miata engine, and to do a good turbo setup on it that could carry anywhere near the power i am doing on an SR (300+whp) would cost quite a bit and a built engine. Not to mention, it would probably require a stand alone, lots of tunning, and maybe be less reliable.

For my SR setup, I will be using a S15 T28, tubular manifold, custom exhaust and intercooler. And for fuel, i just need a pump, 550 injectors and a simple ROM tune. Much easier engine wise. Should be interesting.

Anyone know how much power the LSD in these things can hold?
