This was a fun event!
...and it was not all Hot Rods.
EVERYTHING WAS FREE! No charge for entrants. No charge for spectators.
They did accept donations for their kids programs and there were a lot of
young people helping in the serving line and with the DJ-ing. This time the music
was laid back, feel-good Beach Boys sounds in between the give-aways in the raffle.
There was no 50/50 raffle maybe since it was a church and maybe they thought it was a form
of gambling........I didn't ask and they weren't talking. Beach Boys music was a change from
the WFLZ-type music that I hear at most of the import meets. I contrast that with the
variety of music at the QSL meet/show a few weeks ago. When you have a variety of
cars it makes sense to have a variety of music. It makes sense to play the kind of music
that most people showing up will like.
I had never been there before.
This was not as big as the Dover Rod Run's three times per year cruise in meet
which is coming up in April. Keep checking TR's Local Events.
But they are just getting started. There were about 4 other meets happening
on the same day. The church is a new one with a lot of enthusiastic people.
The paved lot did not have as much shade as the gravel lot, and I did not want
to be sweating......so I headed for one of several shady spots under the trees.
I pulled in between a couple nice 60's Camaros and had spectators looking all over
my car before I could get the windows cleaned off. It was like they had never seen
a Honda before.
..........and for sure they have never seen a Honda like mine!
In the Import class, there was a Triumph TR4, two VW's and me!
Guess who won best Honda?
Is that an easy question!
Every entrant got an all-you-can-eat lunch of burgers, dogs, BBQ
and sausages. No chips, but I'm not a complainer. The baked beans went
really quick and by the time I finished the first BBQ sandwich, I was glad I
did not wait too long. It went down with some lemonade and I tried one of
the grilled burgers my second time through. By then they had brought out
the second large bowl of potato salad.
I don't know how much they collected for their youth program but I hope it was a lot.
From there I could have gone to the fund raiser in Wesley Chapel but I hit
the Interstate and went down south to the Taco Bell/Harbor Freight tools
cruise in meet at Clark and Beneva Road in Sarasota. It is a straight shot
from Interstate 75 and they cruise in every other week on the 2nd and 4th
Saturdays.
And by the way, that "mystery" carbon fiber Audi that I mentioned in General
Car Chat a few days ago? Here's the link:https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/g...ledge-car.html
There was one.... an R8 (non carbon fiber) at the
Taco Bell meet.....and a Lotus.....and .............my humble Honda.....LOL -Bob
