This is going to be very cool. Rat rods and traditional rods are coming from all over the southeast to Lakeland to battle it out on the 1/8 mile. These old school hot rods are tons of fun. They should put on a great show. They always give out crazy trophies for biggest failures, and slowest car, stuff like that. My buddy Tim is bringing his '37 Ford Truck Rat Rod.

His is pretty mild by comparison. There are some rods that look like full size hotwheels cars.
Billetproof is the PREMIERE (edit)Traditional Hot Rod (edit) event. I wouldn't doubt that Hot Rod Deluxe magazine would be there shooting. If you are unaware of Billetproof events here is a video I shot a couple of years ago at there first event in Florida. Hundreds of rods showed up.

I know a few people that would take offense to Billetproof being called a "Rat Rod" show/event, including the organizers.

Billetproof is traditional rods, but they don;t discreminate,a nd rat rods are welcome, but it's defintely not a Rat Rod show.

Actually, I interviewed the organizer himself and he said, "Billetproof is all about 50's and 60's style customs." That includes rat-rods as well as traditionals. And there are plenty of rat-rods at any Billetproof event, thus it is, no matter what they call it, also a rat-rod event.
The only people that seem to take offense to rat-rods are the stuck-up hard-core traditional guys. Many of which just need to shut-up about it. People who don't know the difference between the two don't care, and those that care...know the difference.

As a founding member of the Florida Poor Boys, the Host club of the Florida Billetproof show, and personal friend of Alan Galbrath owner of Billetproof WE DEFFINATELY take offense to it being called "the premier rat rod show" Because IT IS NOT! it is a traditional Hot rod show that welcoms all traditionally styled pre 64 cars, even if they are rat rods. And Im not a stuck up traditionallist by any means. And I am sure every single person in my club with agree with what I have just said.

with that being said, Charles I saw your caddy out there yesterday and it looked really good, I have a number of pictures I posted on the HAMB last night and I will post them on here when I get home from work.

Yep. I'm lazy. I took a few pictures at the track, but mostly enjoyed the entertainment!

 

I know good and well the difference between the two. Don't get me wrong.

But....

The term "hot rod" has been so publicly genericized over the years, and "Traditional" isn't quite mainstream. However, the term "rat-rod" paints a picture that most people recognize. I was just trying to help attract more people on TR to an event that I really enjoy. So sometimes it helps to go with what works in a one sentence title for a thread. Sorry to offend.

But, it's just a term....we spend our whole lives trying to defy labels that other people put on us. But then we go and label and categorize ourselves.
I shouldn't have said "people need to shut up about it" so I apologize.
I just think people need to relax about that kind of stuff. Obviously, my intentions were only meant to help.

That said....was a fun event, it was really cool to see these cars in action.
Charles, I didn't see your Caddy there. Maybe I missed it. I got there around noon after helping a buddy gather parts for his busted rod.
