Default Registering Imported Car Help

Hey guys, i have a question. I've seen a few RHD cars registered here in florida but most of them are just conversions. I wanted to know how do you register a true RHD straight from japan.

Example I might be getting a EK9 CTR and i have no idea on what paperwork, steps, are needed to get it registered to where i can actually drive the thing and not get my car at a impound and me thrown in jail. If you guys know of the steps please shed some light onto this. Thanks

I believe you need the car to be 25 years old and have the paperwork on it, otherwise it's a pain in the ass.

Pretty much none of the Skylines that are here, are here legally. There was a big thing about this a few years ago.

My dad waited out his 25 years to bring his civic over from Sweden. Then he just rented a trailer, went to a few places, and registered it.

no^^ bad info i looked into it when i got a setlement 2yrs ago but this is basically what i remeber u have to call US border patrol & customs, then they give u paper work to fill out then u buy the car from a "registered importer" then i believe DOT has to do some test or something and u have to put up a $50k BOND (u will get back if all goes right) then a BUNCH of red TAPE

long story short BUY A registered Ek9 that is already done prob look around NWP, and other REAL sites fro honda's i have seen them for around 15k or so

I gave him correct info. And so did you. If a car is 25+ years old, you basically import it, do the paperwork, and your done. It's not that hard. And you can get the blue Antique plates!

If a car is less than 25 years old, you need to do all that shit. Depending on the car, you might also need to have DOT crash test it to make sure it's safe. Something like that. There are few people that put in the work to get a imported car legally registered the right way. Many, many imported cars have faked paperwork/vin swap or simply aren't road legal.

There was a company that was selling small Honda's over eBay, not sure if they're still around. The took the cars from Japan to Canada, where registering them is much easier, then they transfer the title to you when you buy it.

Honestly though, TR is not the place to ask.

oh ok yes that part is true now that u made more clear sorry did not understand u ment 25+ and u are basically free and clear

in short version if u dont have around $75k including price for car (u get $50K back in like a yr or someting) dont try u will loose so much money to import and register ur self

BUY ONE ALREADY REGISTERED--make sure they have OG japan title also and other REAL documents to prove it is legitlly registered

and second part is so very true

a while ago i was going to ge ta ek9 ctr and there was a guy in orlando who did all the paper work, registrations, inspections but he quoted me for some where in between 3-5k depending i had his number but on my old phone. Other than that what people do, is for example they get a ctr and they have another ek shell and they just swap vins and register the ctr as the ek shell they had, keep in mind if it ever gets stolen, you will get garbage for it
