Default the cam is a bitch

i've been rebuilding my si motor for the past month now (i'll post a link to a completed online photo album when done) and yesterday it was time to put the head back together. i got all the valves, valve guides, springs, keepers, and retainers (lower and upper) put back in and then it came time to put the cam back in, about 9:30 pm. so when we took a good look at the cam we noticed metal shavings everywhere. it is a sohc in a 98 y8 head. so we took the whole cam apart and cleaned it. those stupid li'l vtec pistons are a pain in the ass when trying to put the whole thing back together. so needless to say, it's done, it's in and until i upgrade my cam i hope to never touch it again.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

yep. we slid everything off and laid it all out. cleaned every freakin part and then i put it back together.

although it was a pain in the azz i have a way better understanding of how the cam and vtec part of it works now.

i have heard the ls cam is a lot easier than the one i was dealing with.
