B16a1 Axels???
Ok... I was at my friends house over the weekend in St. Pete, and him and I took my car to go to the street races. On our way out, I noticed that everytime I take off from a dead stop, there is a clang noise comming from my drivers side wheel. The harder I take off, the louder it is. I told him I was going to check it out when I get to my house. So today, when I got home, I jacked up the front of my car and looked under the drivers side wheel. Sure enough it was my axel. The boot was totally slit open (I knew this for a while... I really dont mind the clicking when I make a turn under power...). But when I grab the axel with my hand, it kinda has some play in it when I move it side to side. My dad says that the axel will not last long, and I need to replace it asap. Ok, this is where it gets weird... The guy I bought the car from said that axels had to be custom made for that motor. He said that a new axel would have to be cut in half, then re-welded. I asked a local import performance shop if that was true about B16 axels... the guy I talked to said he has never heard of that before, and the guy that told me they need to be cut and re-welded, was full of shit. Now while I was up under the car, my dad pointed out that it looked like my drivers side axel had been cut and re-welded back together.
I was told that axels from a 90-93 Integra LS will fit. My question... do they really have to be cut and re-welded, or do the 90-93 Integra LS axels fit with no problem??? My dad recomended me to go to this shop in town called Driveshaft Specalists. Shound I go to them or what???
Has anyone ever changed their axels on there B16a1? What did YOU have to do? Any help is greatly appericeated!

Since it is your drivers side axle you have to match it to your intermediate shaft. There are two different types of b16a1 intermediate shafts:
s1, same intermediate shaft as 90-93 teg so 90-93 teg axles work great.
y1, this one is a little tricky, a stock 90-93 teg axle will be too long, this might be why you have a cut/shortened on on your car. The easier solution is to get a 88-89 teg axle and put the 90-93 teg inner joint on it. That is basically what an sir axle is. There is also a place called raxles that sells these modified axles already made.

It has nothing to do with the tranny. You have to match the drivers side axle to the intermediate shaft.
