im not sure on any other civic's, but i do know on the 91's the fuel pump is inside the gas tank, well mine was, it was a bitch replacing it and smelled like fuel for days, they make them so you can run external pumps also just have to be careful on where you put it...(water getting in lines.....ETC....)
