I know you have to look for smooth surfaces and crackes stuff like that. I would just like some advise what I need to look out for. I want to build something on my own. I know alot of you peoples have built you own. How much should I be looking to spen for a ls short block. no pistons just a bare stock bored plain reg. block?

Would I be able to use CTR pistons and CTR rods? Or shotpened LS rods to fit the CTR's?

Just a note CTR's will be over 12:1 compression. You use the stock rods, get arp rod bolts and shotpeen them if you want. The pistons need to be modified to fit the rods.

make sure there are no deep scratches on the decks surface. Make sure the cylinder walls are not cracked.
