i disconnected both tie rods and everything from the steering column and i cant get the rack out of the car. its completely off except one bolt goes up through the sub-frame and its too long to pull out either side. what do i do?

 

Make sure you remove everything including the pinion from up inside the steering part that goes inside the car itself. You have to push the rack all the way the the right. Right being driverside pusing it to passenger side. It takes some wiggling to get it out completly. The rack has to be free from anything to be able to get it out. I hope this helps. I just got finished replacing my rack and pinion and tie rod ends and lower ball joints from your almost identical car a 88 civic which is pretty much the same as mine underneath were the rack and stuff is setup.
